A city is ravaged by an epidemic of blindness and those afflicted are quarantined in an abandoned mental hospital where criminals prey upon the weak. One woman retains her sight but fakes blindness to be able to stay with her husband and becomes the leader of a small group as the rest of the community breaks down into chaos and disorder.
