Dan and Laura Miller are a seemingly idyllic couple whose 8-year-old son Adam, like his mother, is deaf. After a trip to the doctor Dan becomes intrigued by the idea of a cochlear implant for Adam. This alarms Laura who is a deaf pride advocate who resents the inference there is something wrong with her son. The couple takes their case to court as they both feel strongly that they know what is best for their son.
